January 30: Headline updated to reflect that only Facebook accounts were vulnerable to the bug this was due to an editing error. Curtis also said that Meta’s investigation after the bug was reported found that there was no evidence of exploitation in the wild, and that Meta saw no spike in usage of that particular feature, which would signal the fact that no one was abusing it. Meta spokesperson Gabby Curtis told TechCrunch that at the time of the bug the login system was still at the stage of a small public test. Meta fixed the bug a few days later, and paid Mänôz $27,200 for reporting the bug. Mänôz found the bug in the Meta Accounts Center last year, and reported it to the company in mid-September. Image Credits: Gtm Mänôz (screenshot)Īt this point, theoretically, an attacker could try to take over the victim’s Facebook account just by phishing for the password, given that the target didn’t have two-factor enabled anymore. “Basically the highest impact here was revoking anyone’s SMS-based 2FA just knowing the phone number,” Mänôz told TechCrunch.Īn email from Meta to an account owner telling them that their two-factor protections have been switched off. A successful attack would still result in Meta sending a message to the victim, saying their two-factor was disabled as their phone number got linked to someone else’s account. Once the attacker got the code right, the victim’s phone number became linked to the attacker’s Facebook account. This was the key step, because there was no upper limit to the amount of attempts someone could make. With a victim’s phone number, an attacker would go to the centralized accounts center, enter the phone number of the victim, link that number to their own Facebook account, and then brute force the two-factor SMS code. Gtm Mänôz, a security researcher from Nepal, realized that Meta did not set up a limit of attempts when a user entered the two-factor code used to log into their accounts on the new Meta Accounts Center, which helps users link all their Meta accounts, such as Facebook and Instagram. A bug in a new centralized system that Meta created for users to manage their logins for Facebook and Instagram could have allowed malicious hackers to switch off an account’s two-factor protections just by knowing their phone number. You could also wait for cheaper used 3090s but I doubt people will be selling many of them, we are still dealing with the post-shortage effects, many people didn't have those gpus for a while and many will keep them since they probably paid quite a lot for them, way more than msrp, if anyone will sell them it won't be for cheap, certainly there will be those hoping to sell these used gpus for msrp (good luck to them, only idiots would buy used gpus for msrp) just like it was when 3000 series came out and people were selling 2080Tis (except 3090 are really good gpus still and 2000 series was garbage because both rt corese and tensor cores were not properly developed, dlss didn't work well, rtx was too taxing). If Nvidia releases a 4060 that has 12GB but manages to be cheaper it will be the new sweetspot but we are all hoping for something slightly more expensive (3070/3080 price) with 16GB of VRAM.Ĭlick to expand. If you don't have 3000 series then don't buy it, go straight for whatever 4000 series with 12GB or 16GB (still nice upgrade from 8GB 1080 and speed increase alone will be worth it). Whatever AMD will have might have the same limiations as Nvidia's tensor cores implementation so good chance it will not be possible to utilize those extra cores for DFL.Īs far as Intel goes, it should run on DX12 build like AMD, if it suprasses AMD in DX12 performance then it migh also be faster in DFL.Ĭurrently sweetspot is 3060 with 12GB when it comes to price to performance for DFL, then you've got garbage gpus that are faster but have less VRAM so not that capable and then you get 3090 and Ti with 24GB. DFL was never able to utilize tensor cores due to low precision of the math they can do (fp16), not precise enough for DFL, there was an fp16 option added to DFL that would use them, it was added twice, removed twice and never worked (models would collapse, training not stable), not likely it will do now unless they offer higher precision of iperov rewrites how DFL talks to the gpus, perhaps still not full tensor core utilization but more low level access for better performance and memory management (less vram overhead and usage, thus higher model parameters possible). We found that we made even fewer typos on the 6.Ĭertain aspects of iOS 8 are available only on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, such as Apple Pay (which hasn’t been released yet) and Reachability, the feature that aims to make using bigger screen iPhones easier for old-school iPhone users. Since the screen is so much bigger, it’s much easier to use the swipe-to-type function, and our fingers have more room to maneuver. We tested SwiftKey on our iPhone 5 earlier this week and now we set it up on the iPhone 6. One of our favorite new features is the ability to add third-party keyboard apps. The absence of compatible apps due to a bug in the system has only exacerbated the issue. The HealthKit app isn’t intuitive, easy to use, or particularly useful. Unfortunately, two of the biggest features - Apple Pay and HealthKit - are currently unavailable. It looks and works almost exactly like iOS 7, but with a few minor alterations. We’ve been using iOS 8 since it arrived on September 17. The lines look sloppy and almost accidental. Personally, we wish the space between the white lines were filled in white as it is on the iPhone 5S. The only real complaint that we have about the phone’s design is the odd, white lines on the back. Our review unit features the gold finish, which adds a bit of personality to the design. It’s positioned much closer to the edge of the phone, though, so you’ll have to be careful not to cover the lens when taking pictures as you hold the phone horizontally. The camera sticks out slightly from the back of the device, but it’s not too noticeable. Muscle memory will have hard-core iPhone users looking for the button at the top, but the side switch is easier to reach. The new position makes it much easier to turn the phone on and off. We’ve been hoping that Apple would move the power button ever since the iPhone 5 came out. The power button has now moved to the right-hand side and we found that it aligned with our index finger or thumb well. The iPhone 6 is just a hair narrower than the HTC One M8 and quite a bit shorter. At this point, it’s a waste of space, but Apple is wedded to the Home button, where its Touch ID fingerprint sensor is located. Oddly, its huge top and bottom bezels make it the same size as the Moto X, even though it has a smaller screen. In terms of size, the iPhone 6 is narrower than the 2014 Moto X, but it looks just about as tall as the new Moto, which has a 5.2-inch screen. The iPhone 6’s curves ensure that it nestles into your palms and eases the grip of your fingers on the side. Also, if you operate cold water equipment more than a few hours a week, you should closely consider the labor savings that could be realized by switching to a hot water pressure washer. You wouldn’t think of washing your greasy hands with cold water and the same principle applies to power washing. Cold water pressure washers cannot remove grease and oil effectively. 2.3 gallons per minute flow rate 2 semi-pneumatic tires 30-ft. However, to clean any surface that needs to be degreased, hot water is a must. For more cleaning power there are accessories available that work with a cold water pressure washer, increasing cleaning power and decreasing cleaning time. Cold water pressure washers are ideal for removing dirt and mud from most any surface decks, siding, concrete, etc. When choosing a pressure washer, your application will play a major factor in whether you need a Hot or Cold water pressure washer. A maximum working pressure of 4000 PSI and a flow rate of 3.5 GPM help clean efficiently. Shorter cleaning time means less labor, which equals more productivity. Is Time a Factor?Ī heavy duty pressure washer can cut cleaning times in half. A mid-range pressure washer can eject water at 2GPM with a max pressure of 2,500 PSI, that’s a total of 5,000 CPU 25 times more powerful than your average garden hose Let’s forget about the math and talk about how GPM and PSI should be balanced. Although these models are not recommended for heavy, consistent usage they are a lower cost alternative to more expensive, belt driven models. The pump is directly coupled to the engine or motor causing the pump to spin twice as fast as the belt drive models. Direct-Driveįor applications not requiring more than 20 hours of use per week, direct driven pumps are more commonly used. The belt connecting the engine or motor with the high-pressure pump dissipates the heat and vibration, minimizes the wear and thus the repair on key components, and extends the life of the pump by reducing the RPM demand. Most commonly found on industrial models, a belt driven pump is ideal for cleaning applications requiring 20+ hours of use per week. Quality is determined by the type of pump and the components of the pump. Cleaning units do not determine quality of the unit. The 4000 PSI unit cleans 50% faster than the 3200 PSI unit. Cleaning units is calculated by multiplying PSI and GPM.ģ200 PSI x 2.4 GPM = 7680 Cleaning Units VS. Sort 1 2 Enjoy cleaner results with DEWALT®s line of portable pressure washers. Cleaning units gives the customer a measure of unit performance (efficiency) to compare one unit to another. Yet another option is to use one of the package management systems that exist for Windows. Install Python using a package manager for Windows But the embeddable zip doesn’t include pip or any of the other useful tools that come with a full install, so it’s for expert use only. It’s useful to bundle in when you want to distribute a Python app manually, or when you need a quick, one-off Python install to test something on the fly. The embeddable zip file is a self-contained, minimal copy of the Python runtime that fits in a single folder with no dependencies. This dramatically reduces the size of the actual installer, but of course requires a network connection. The web-based installer is the same as the executable installer, except that it separately downloads the bits needed to perform the install. This is the easy default choice, and the most commonly used. EXE file that runs the setup process for Python. In addition to the 32-bit (“x86”) and 64-bit (“x86-64”) versions already mentioned, you can choose from the embeddable zip file, the executable installer, and the web-based installer. offers a number of different incarnations of Python for Windows. Choose the right Python installer for Windows The Windows installer lets you specify the target directory. If you’re the only user on the system, you might want to place Python in a higher-level directory (e.g. Python installs on Windows in much the same way as any other application, by way of an installer that guides you through the setup process.īy default the Python installer for Windows places its executables in the user’s AppData directory, so that it doesn’t require administrative permissions. The only time you should choose the 32-bit version of Python is if you’re stuck with a 32-bit version of Windows, or you need to use a third-party module that is available only in a 32-bit edition. Some are available only in 64-bit versions. 64-bit applications don’t have this limit, hence many data analysis and machine learning tools for Python work best in 64-bit incarnations. 32-bit Python, and 32-bit apps generally, can access only 4GB of memory at a time.Windows users can run 32-bit editions of Python on 64-bit Windows, but at a slight cost of performance. Most modern operating systems use a 64-bit edition of Python by default. The most likely answer is 64-bit, for the following reasons: One key choice you’ll need to make, especially on Windows, is whether to use the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Python. (You might want to investigate other Python distributions later, since they address specific use cases you might have, but we won’t consider them here.) Again, this is the safest and most broadly compatible distribution, the one nobody gets fired for picking. Unlike Linux, though, Python offers one, gold-standard, “official” edition you can always fall back on: CPython, the version provided by the Python Software Foundation at. Python also comes in a variety of distributions, in much the same way Linux does. You can always try out the most recent version of Python in a controlled way - e.g., in a VM or a test machine - but going one version back guarantees the best compatibility with common third-party Python packages. The safe bet, then, is to use the latest update of Python 3.7 (in this case, Python 3.7.6). At the time of this writing, Python 3.8.1 is the most current version. “Most of the people we pick up die in nursing homes,” says Williams, “but sometimes we get people who died of gunshot wounds or in a car-wreck. Victims of trauma and violent deaths usually need extensive facial reconstruction, a highly skilled and time-consuming task. Williams performs this so that family and friends can view their departed loved one at the funeral. Embalming involves treating the body with chemicals that slow down the decomposition process, primarily to restore it as closely as possible to its natural state before death. Her work involves collecting recently deceased bodies from the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and sometimes beyond, and preparing them for their funeral, by washing and embalming them. Now 28 years old, she estimates that she has worked on something like 1,000 bodies. Having been raised in a family-run funeral home in north Texas, and worked there all her life, she has seen and handled dead bodies on an almost daily basis since her childhood. Williams speaks softly and has a happy-go-lucky demeanour that belies the gruesome nature of her work. “Usually, the fresher a body is, the easier it is for me to work on.” “It might take a little bit of force to break this up,” says mortician Holly Williams, lifting John’s arm and gently bending it at the fingers, elbow and wrist. This causes the muscles to become rigid, and locks the joints. After death, the cells are depleted of their energy source, and the protein filaments become locked in place. In life, muscle cells contracts and relax due to the actions of two filamentous proteins, called actin and myosin, which slide along each other. Then, rigor mortis – the stiffness of death – sets in, starting in the eyelids, jaw and neck muscles, before working its way into the trunk and then the limbs. Damaged blood cells spill out of broken vessels and, aided by gravity, settle in the capillaries and small veins, discolouring the skin.īody temperature also begins to drop, until it has acclimatised to its surroundings. This usually begins in the liver, which is enriched in enzymes, and in the brain, which has high water content eventually, though, all other tissues and organs begin to break down in this way. Enzymes start to digest cell membranes and then leak out as the cells break down. Soon after the heart stops beating, cells become deprived of oxygen, and their acidity increases as the toxic by-products of chemical reactions begin to accumulate inside them. It could, for example, lead to new, more accurate ways of estimating time of death, and of finding bodies that have been hidden in clandestine graves.ĭecomposition begins several minutes after death, with a process called autolysis, or self-digestion. A better understanding of the cadaveric ecosystem – how it changes over time, and how it interacts with and alters the ecology of its wider environment – could have important applications in forensic science. We still know very little about human decay, but the growth of forensic research facilities, or ‘body farms,’ together with the availability and ever-decreasing cost of techniques such as DNA sequencing, now enables researchers to study the process in ways that were not possible just a few years ago. A growing number of scientists view a rotting corpse as the cornerstone of a vast and complex ecosystem, which emerges soon after death and flourishes and evolves as decomposition proceeds. a rotting corpse is teeming with lifeįar from being ‘dead,’ however, a rotting corpse is teeming with life. The sight of a rotting corpse is, for most of us, unsettling at best, and repulsive and frightening at worst, the stuff of nightmares. Time of death is a crucial piece of information in any murder investigation, but the many factors influencing the decomposition process can make it extremely difficult to estimate. When the body is eventually discovered, the first thing that the police detectives and forensics experts working on the case will try to establish is when death occurred. A murderer might bury his victim in a shallow grave, or leave their body at the scene of the crime, exposed to the elements. It also serves to slow down the decomposition process, so that family members can remember their loved one as they once were, rather than as they now are.įor others, the end is less dignified. This is a way of showing respect to the deceased, and of bringing a sense of closure to bereaved family. Most of us die natural deaths and, at least in the West, are given a traditional burial. Most of us would rather not think about what happens to our selves and loved ones after death. |
